Student of the Month
- Sean Kelly -
Give us a little background and interests of your life outside of PAMA.
I'm a professional musician. I play bass in a trio called Jazz vs. the Space Tiger and I give private instruction on bass, guitar, piano and drums. I also do freelance work as a bass player.
When did you originally start training at PAMA and how did you hear about the Academy?
I think I originally started in 2004, but I really wasn't focused so I took a few years off and returned in June of 2008. I learned about PAMA online. I wanted to train somewhere that was legitimate and after some research PAMA was the right choice.
What made you first interested in Martial Arts?
Every since I was about six years old and first discovered what karate was I knew that it was something I wanted to do.
What do you most enjoy about your training?
Everything really. The people, the workout, the euphoric feeling after class. It really keeps me in balance.
What are your goals you hope to achieve through martial arts?
Just to keep improving and growing.
In what ways has your training at PAMA permeated into other aspects of your life?
It helps me with music a lot. I draw from the methods and concepts Sifu shares with us and I apply it to my own teaching and practicing. It also makes playing gigs easier, a three hour gig seems like a cake walk compared to three classes back to back. And I'm a little less clumsy...that's a big one for me.
Anything else additional you would like to add?
I would like to thank Sifu and the PAMA staff for all of the guidance and I look forward to training harder and more consistently in the years to come.

- Sifu Rick Celebrates His 21st Year in Sweden -
Sifu Rick returned to Malmo, Sweden for a Seminar on Oct 31st and Nov 1st this year. The host of the seminar and good friend of PAMA, Sifu Dan Johansson of the Martial Arts Alliance, has been training under Sifu Rick since 1988.
There were many returning students this year and it was great to see their progression and improvement over the years. Also, it is always great to see students who are very new to martial arts participate and enjoy the teachings. This year there was a strong emphasis on the Southeast Asian Arts and, as we spoke about, we are watching as the pendulum swings and the martial arts community's interests return to the traditional, effective, and time proven martial arts. This seminar brought out some of the most important fundamental elements of self development necessary for these arts as well as the self actualization that all true martial artists strive for at all levels.
There was a large portion of the seminar that emphasized Silat, the beautiful but deadly art of Indonesia. This art is so rarely taught and understood at a high level it was a pleasure for all participants to get a glimpse into its complexity and intricate movements. There were many takeaways and Dan was left with the torch to carry and lead Sweden with his knowledge and understanding of Silat.
Sweden holds a very special place in our hearts and this trip was enjoyable on many levels. Thank you Sifu for giving us this opportunity and reigniting our passion once again. As always, thank you Dan for being such a wonderful host!

The patented form of DIM in Indolplex is 10 times more potent than its precursor, indol-3 carbinol (I3C).
The role of DIM in the body is to support healthy estrogen metabolism and hormonal balance, two factors known to prevent estrogen dominance. This unique formulation supports healthy estrogen metabolism and hormonal balance. Healthy hormonal balance affects how body fat is stored and how lean muscle tissue is increased.
